D3 A8 carbon fiber trim production – part 2

Made some progress on my friend’s D3 A8/S8 trim.  The resin is applied to the majority of the set and will spend the next few days curing.  After its cured, I can trim off all the excess, start sanding it smooth, and getting the pieces ready for clearcoat.

I’m a little behind on the dash pieces, they’ll get resin applied to them over the weekend.

D3 A8 carbon fiber trim production…

A friend of mine recently acquired a D3 S8.  Before he picked it up he got a hold of me to if I could do something about the wood trim.  I spent some time getting a few D3 cores shipped over from Germany so I could take care of him.  These pics are of the first few stages of production.  I should be able to get some resin on the pieces later this weekend.

A bunch of new samples ready to go…

Almost 100 envelopes filled with sample scraps are ready to go and will be mailed out today.  Everyone that requested a sample as of last night will have theirs mailed out today.

I cut the samples smaller this time, so everyone that requested a sample will get one square of 11oz 2×2 twill and another of 20oz 2×2 twill.  A few random people will also have squares of colored carbon/kevlar along with their twill samples.  I didn’t have the time to label which scrap was which, but it should be very obvious when you’re holding the scraps in your hand.  The 11oz (pictured left) will have a slightly smaller weave, while the 20oz (on the right) will have a thicker weave and will be noticeably stiffer.

Another custom 4 by 4 twill carbon fiber trim set…

I’ve been working on this set for a long time now, but I wanted to make sure it was perfect since it’s for a friend of mine.  He got one of my 5.6oz 2×2 twill sets a little over 2 years ago and was looking for a change.  Originally I attempted a silver texalium set for him, but I wasn’t happy with the results so I convinced him to take a different route.  I suggested we go with a custom 4×4 twill fabric and at first he was a little hesitant since he was so dead set on silver.  But after I showed him some pictures of the progress, he seemed to have a change of heart and was convinced that the 4×4 was the right move.  It should be at his door by the end of the week, I’m looking forward to hearing his thoughts on it.

A new B8 A4/S4 gallery added…

Just got a few pictures from David of his B8 beltline trim installed.  I still have a few more pieces to finish up and get them sent off to him, so I’ll be adding more pictures to his gallery once he gets the shifter piece and the vent/MMI pieces.
