Custom A5/S5 seatbacks almost done…

We were able to make quite a bit of progress on the custom red carbon/kevlar A5 seatbacks today.  These should have clearcoat on them by the end of the weekend, and hopefully can be finished up shortly after that.

Sam wetsanding out some of the big scratches after he blocked it smooth.

A quick rinse to remove all the grit and get a preview of things to come.

It still needs a bit more work to clean up the edges, but for the most part they’re almost ready for clearcoat.

A5/S5 beltline teasers…

Finally finished polishing up the beltline and will be wrapping it up and shipping it off to its owner tomorrow.  It should be at his door step (and hopefully installed) by the end of the week.

A5/S5 Carbon Fiber Trim Production – part 3…

I got done clearcoating the door pieces pretty late last night.  They turned out beautiful.  I really couldn’t be any happier with them.

Perfect lines, no waves on the finish at all.

Very clean edges.

I was going to just post these pictures last night, but I felt like the images of the pieces under the florescent lights of the warehouse didn’t do them justice.  So I took them out in the sun this morning and they really sparkled.

I love how the color changes depending on the angle and the reflection of the light.  Can’t wait to see these installed.

Tons of progress for the custom A5 stuff…

I haven’t stayed on top of updating the blog with the progress on all this custom A5 stuff, so I’ll just do one huge post with everything (I’m almost done with a lot of it, so there will be more updates on it in the coming days).

These seatbacks are going to look amazing once installed.  They are my first custom colored seatbacks, so I’m really looking forward to seeing them against a black interior.

After the first coat of resin.

Matching interior trim after several coats of resin.

Building up resin on the seatbacks.  These were tricky because of the shape.  I had to prop them up because I didn’t want resin pooling in the deeper parts of the grooves.

Trim was cured and ready to be trimmed and sanded up.

Final coats of resin on the seatbacks.

After the seatbacks had cured.  They’ll still need a lot of work trimming and sanding.  Getting them smooth will take some effort.

After the trim has been cleaned up.  I’ll be shooting the clearcoat on these in the next few days.  Really happy with how they turned out.

A5/S5 Carbon Fiber Trim Production

UPS just showed up with a brand new set of A5/S5 set of trim from Europrice.  I’ll be able to start tearing it down over the weekend.  This set will be getting a custom look with a red carbon kevlar hybrid fabric, so it will really stand out.
